Beautiful pair of wooden stilt shoes with original paint in a decorative floral design with bold greens and reds. Wonderful sculptural shape, making an unusual antique display.
1800s, India, these shoes are one of the oldest forms of Indian footwear. They were worn for many reasons, for example during religious rituals and also during the monsoon season to raise feet in order to keep them clean.
Overall they are in good condition, however there is a chip to one of the central toe supports and loss of wood on one of the heels, as shown in the images.
