This 'pull along' horse is carved and painted and mounted on a green painted wooden base. Originally there would have been wheels attached to the underside. The horse has a mane and tail made from horse hair, his eyes are painted black eyes and his ears are made from leather. His body has faded over time to a soft dapple grey. This is a wonderfully decorative horse, with a good patina to its coat, lovely face and characterful appearance.
Circa 1900, France.
Cracks are very visible in the joints holding the body parts together although the body is solid and stable. There is paint loss and there has been loss of hair to the mane and tail. The wheels are missing from the base and there is evidence of historic wood worm (which has been treated) to the base.
